Date Night

Last night, for the first time in a long-overdue while, Pete and I got a date night. The older two muffins were left in very capable hands. Grandma and Grandpa came to watch them at home and they all had fun. Pete and I headed off on our way to a lodge somewhere in the middle of nowhere. We had heard they had good food and was only about 45 minutes away. So we get to this very nice looking lodge to discover they are open six days a week. Closed on Monday. It was Monday. Nice. Out in the middle of nowhere and not knowing where to find the next closest place to eat. So we hopped on another road and drove another 45 minutes to Marquette - knowing Grandma could get our older muffins into bed just fine. After a call to my very helpful and capable sister, and the help of Google Maps, she got us to the right part of town to find a good place to eat. Jude, by this time, decided it was time for him to eat and was not being too patient. We saw a Lowe's and Pete decided to walk around while I nursed Jude. He didn't have his cell phone with, so he was just going to come back in fifteen to twenty minutes. He didn't even make it to the door before things unraveled farther. I picked up Jude out of his car seat and discovered a mess. He had filled his diaper...a slimy stinky mess through the diaper, through the outfit and into the car seat. Yep...a big mess. So I climbed into the back of the van to start cleaning him up only to realize the diaper bag was missing. No diapers, no wipes, no spare outfits. No phone to call Pete. Hungry crying baby. So I did what anyone would do. Pulled off the pants, hiked up his shirt, tore two holes in the bottom of a Wal-Mart bag, and stuffed him in!!

Amazed

When you are three so many things strike you as amazing. Ordinary things become extravagant by one tiny change - a change unnoticed by most - but completely fascinating by our young boys. A simple trip to McDonald's, for example, is not a routine for us; but it has happened enough that there is a certain expectation. You stand in line, pay, get a "hangabur", eat, and leave. Yesterday, Pete and I threw the wrench in. We changed it up, and got a very delighted little boy. Ty was delighted as well, but Drew was fascinated. So much so, he asked first thing this morning for the experience to be repeated. We bought the boys ice cream cones. Yes, just ice cream cones - the cheap ones for 49 cents. But, the wrench was in who served them. Unkie gave his nephews their ice cream. Pictures were not captured, and initial excitement was over the ice cream and not the server...but the association has been made. Unkie can give ice cream. I know I will be wishing for the nickle for each time asked, "go see Unkie and get ice cream please?"

Boys will be boys

As comes with playing outside in summer, so does dirt, mud, and messes. We all have the dreaded summer colds here, but it isn't stopping the fun outside. And all the work inside has been slowed by the fun/messes outside. So house pictures are slow in coming, but rest assured, they are! Facebook has more pictures and some of the before pictures if you haven't checked them out, you can look there. But for now, we will keep plugging away at our home.

Caution!!!

A word of warning to those who do not find body humor funny, you may want to skip this post. This is posted by request - I have been told this is a VERY blog-worthy story. Anyway, the face you see below smiling so innocently back at you, is not always so innocent. Sweet yes, innocent, no. This particular event happened during our moving transition - before we could get into our home. Drew had spent the day pretending to be a dog. His name was Sparky and he did everything Sergei did - chewed bones and toys, went for walks, ate dog food (pretending thankfully). Evening came after a good day with Drew. Pete was home from work and taking care of Ty while I was nursing Jude. All of a sudden we hear Drew: "All wet! The floor is all wet!" I will save you the drama and tears, but the long and short was this: he had peed on the floor. No convincing him though - he didn't. It was "penis water" like Sergei. He had lifted his leg and gone on the floor...because Sergei did it, it must be OK. Drew spent some time washing the floor - and all dog activities since have been monitored.
